With no formal training in art, Steve Skipper built an internationally respected career through faith, discipline, craftsmanship and thousands of hours at the easel.

He credits the transformation to his faith in Jesus Christ — a journey from gang involvement and drug addiction into a life as a fine artist with international exposure and respect.

Dream On — A Journey to Deliverance, written with Don Keith in 2017, covers his early life, gang involvement, salvation, deliverance, and his establishment in the fine art business.

Artist Statement

For over 30 years I have been blessed to combine my love for Art and Sports and form a business of which I am very proud. Sports Art can be very demanding, requiring many studies and extreme attention to detail. The individuality of an Athlete or Coach is second to none. The study of the uniforms, logos, equipment, and the anatomy of the Players can be much.

Yet that is not nearly enough as you are required to capture the movement and magic of each individual personality and style. From year to year with equipment changes, hairstyles, tattoos, and team uniform alterations, you can't stay in a rut. You have to constantly study. Paying attention to each detail.

The difference in the size of each athlete from position to position and Sport to Sport. From Football to NASCAR to International Equine Competition. Accepting the challenge of expression on the faces, in the eyes and body language, and complex diversities of anatomy from human to animal and even to race car. These are a few things that the Players appreciate and things that most Artists fail to care about.

The new digital forms of Art with only demand a couple of hours, no brushes, pencils, or paint. We have decided to stay in the ways of the Old Masters which require much care, much time, and work. Many meticulous hours to reach and complement the style of Super Realism which demands as close to a photographic look without losing the touch of the Fine Artist.

Taking a supervising role in the Reproduction process as well as the Custom Framing choices have proven to be an Art within themselves in which I relish as well as the work at the easel in Studio.

I've had a chance to meet some of the greatest Professional and Collegiate Players and Coaches in the world. To sign partnership agreements with the selling and distributing of my work all over the country and outside. It's been a blessing beyond blessings to fulfill a Calling while taking care of my family at the same time.
